Anniversary Day Report
It was my first
Anniversary Day that I arrived at 6am as usually I take Andrew to his
Great Grandma’s and get to the park around 8am. I was so pleased to
wake up to a cloudless sky and what was a perfect day for a car show.
Wes and I passed the park ranger on the way through the car park, so we
knew that the gate and toilets had been unlocked, something we always
worry about them remembering! A few minutes after parking our cars we
realised that they hadn’t unlocked the toilets so we had to get them
back. It was at this time that we found out the toilets were not
working, problems with the septic…. And after some time discussing the
situation the only solution offered was for spectators and entrants to
go to the toilet block that is situated back out in the boat ramp car
park. Certainly not a great solution, but better than nothing.
Thankfully, this was the only hiccup for the day. We had more displays,
entertainment and food options than we have had before, with a three car
display from penrite oil and demonstrations on how their products work.
Thank you to those who purchased from the stall on the day. Penrite
were very happy with the day and all looks positive for an ongoing
sponsorship relationship.
This year we decided to
ask the Lions club to manage the food for the day. This is such a big
job prior to and on the day, which meant that members were able to enjoy
the day rather than slave over the BBQ for some of the day. Feedback
from the Lions club was very positive and they would be delighted to
come back again next year. I have been advised that the money they
raised on the day was placed in their emergency community relief fund
and is purchasing a breathing machine for an elderly gentleman in
Rydalmere. I am thrilled that our show has been able to help someone in
this way. We also had a coffee van offering real coffee, hot chocolates
and tea plus our staple ice cream van.
In total we had 110
cars entered, with about 35 of these entered on the day. Our pre entry
statistics were up from previous years and we thank you for doing this
as it makes it so much easier.
This year we also made
a limited edition T-shirt which many people purchased. I really like
them and are a top quality embroidered shirt for only $25. Thanks Bryce
for creating the design and coordinating the shirts with Sue.
The quality of cars
this year was very high, with a few ‘first time’ cars that drew quite a
bit of attention. The tallying is getting more and more sophisticated
each year, and this year Vince had the trophy and winners list printed
for him rather than handwritten. The trophy winners are listed at the
back of the newsletter. Congratulations to all who won trophies.
I am so pleased that
the weekend was a great success. Dave Dimech and I have worked so hard
on the Show and Shine this year and have already thought of ways to make
it even better next year. Thanks Dave for all your hard work. There are
a number of people to thank for the days success, in particular, Wes for
organising the Lions club, getting sponsors and helping with the goody
bags, Robbo for organising the coffee van and sponsors and Kim and Julie
who worked the club shop all day. Thank you also to all the members who
helped out during the course of the day. Whilst we didn’t do the
catering, there is still a lot of other things to do, such as parking
cars, admin at the gate, spectator money collection, selling raffle
tickets etc…
Please let me know what
you thought about the catering for the day and any suggestions you may
have for other displays or catering options.
I hope everyone had a
fantastic day.
